At the back of our successful regular 20/20 run sessions, the first race this season will be a running event; this should keep us all motivated, improve our running even more, and stay fit during this winter season. So, on the 16th of July, FilOz will be hosting a 5 and 10km fun run at the Regatta Centre. Finisher's medal, age group awards are on offer plus a great fun filled day. Join in and challenge a sibling or a mate and own the bragging rights! Our registration system is not quite ready yet but I will advise once its ready to accept entries. Port Macquarie Ironman, 1st May 2016

Thanks everyone for the kind words of support, congratulatory messages and for following every updates, thanks Jen as well as Mango for your countless cheers, it got us through. And of course to our wives who where there before the start, up until everyone finished, to make sure we get the best 'pictures' :) as well as shouting the loudest cheers. Port Macquarie bike course is honest and tough, add the rain and it became a brutal course. There were a few crashes that I saw, and I too had a near slip as my rear wheel skidded going up Matthew Flinders drive. I managed to recover luckily. The run course was wet, some sections looked like a tough mudder race with all the mud you had to go through. On the swim, due to low tide, one section was too shallow that we had to walk, but overall it was good, especially the weir crossing. Everyone finished safely, very painful legs for a few days but the finisher medal is well deserved as we worked hard for it today. - Rom Faro

FilOz Launch Party Recap, July 2015

FilOz Family and friends all gathered for the official launch party last month. We were joined by representatives from different entities such as Triathlon NSW, and media company Kalatas Media. Based on all the feedback, it was a resounding success, befitting the launch of the first and only Filipino Triathlon group who are officially incorporated, and affiliated with Triathlon Australia. Here is the link to the official photos of the night.

FilOz in the Triathlon NSW Newsletter, July 2015

Triathlon NSW was obviously impressed by FilOz Triathlon Club as the group was featured in their July newsletter. Sarah Koen, Triathlon NSW Membership and Participation Manager, had a glowing report of the club thus far - she calls it "undeniable spirit of a community", but to us Filipinos, it's just plain old "Bayanihan" spirit. Read all about it here.

FilOz Triathlon Club in the media, July 2015

FilOz Triathlon Club was recently featured in the front page of the leading Filipino Australian publication, Ang Kalatas, in their monthly print, online, and eNewspaper editions. Millie Marcial-Phillips from Kalatas Media was present to celebrate the recently concluded and hugely successful launch party late last month. Please click on the link to read the article penned by our very own budding sportswriter Rommel Faro.

Our History

How It All Started

  • Mid 2013

    Our Humble Beginnings

Around the middle part of 2013, a Facebook Group consisting of several triathletes was formed with the purpose of competing and training together. It also helped that many of the members of this group lived in the same area. We struggled in finding a group name, but in the end settled for FilOz Triathlon Team, derived from Filos, the urban term for a Filipino-Australian.

  • March 2014

    First FilOz Race

9th March 2014, marked the first race that the team raced together - the 2014 Tri-the-Gong. This was a momentous stepping stone for the team as many of us were competing in our first "real" triathlon - being a standard Olympic distance race, having escaped the grasp of the enticers and sprints.

  • 2nd Half 2014

    Spreading out

Throughout the rest of 2014, FilOz started spreading out and joined races interstate and abroad. Now FilOz gathered together and thought it best to form as an official team and align ourselves with Triathlon Australia. Meetings were made, then a plan was put forth to become a TA affiliated member club in the next membership year.

  • June 2015

Transition To An Official Triathlon Club

From June 2015, the FilOz Triathlon Club became incorporated and became a Triathlon Australia affiliated club. This marks the end of the dream, and the beginning of exciting times for FilOz Team.
