The Philippines was well represented at the recently concluded Port Macquarie Ironman 2017 fielding about 30 athletes on the day.
Joining our compatriots in the Ironman and 70.3 are the FilOz athletes from Sydney and the Gold Coast, competing in their very
first races in the distance. Congratulations to Ferdinand Boydon, Alfie Ramirez and Anthony Lacsamana for completing their very first Ironman
event and Arvin Reyes for the 70.3 race. Very well done boys, surely next year will see more FilOz acheiving that dream!
This is it! Once again, let us unite and support our first event for the year - FilOz Family Fun Day 2017!
Its a combination of Team Time Trial, Fun Run and Individual Time Trial! Let us form a team that will represent our
club for the ITT and TTT. Our event is supported by the Filipino Cycling group (UCCA). Hope to see you all there!
On the 25th of January 7pm, we will be having an Awards Night and Celebration for the success that was 2016 and hopeful plans for the club in the new year. We are cordially inviting you and your family to celebrate this momentous occasion with us.
We have a special guest speaker for the night, Ms. Andrea Forrest, a professional triathlete specialising in the 70.3 distance. We hope to learn from Andrea the secret to her success in the sport we all love.
We hope you can join us, if not for triathlon and multi-sport, then for a celebration of friendship, family, music, dancing and of living life to the fullest!
To RSVP, please let us know by the 19th of January, details are in the attached poster.
Thank you once again for your support.
Last year's Duathlon race was a huge success so we're bringing it again this year. Save the date - on the 3rd of September, FilOz Triathlon Club's Duathlon race is happening again and we promise this year's event will be even bigger and better.
Same as our inaugural race last year, we will be accepting Individual and relay team entries, as well as juniors for the first time. Finisher medals and trophies for podium finishers awaits everyone so form your team, or set a goal for yourself and start training!
Exciting news! The FilOz Triathlon Club will be running a few races this season, and we're hopeful on finishing this with our very first Triathlon race.
At the back of our successful regular 20/20 run sessions, the first race this season will be a running event; this should keep us all motivated, improve our running even more, and stay fit during this winter season. So, on the 16th of July, FilOz will be hosting a 5 and 10km fun run at the Regatta Centre. Finisher's medal, age group awards are on offer plus a great fun filled day. Join in and challenge a sibling or a mate and own the bragging rights!
Our registration system is not quite ready yet but I will advise once its ready to accept entries.
Details are on the attached flyer, any questions just give us a call or ask me during our run sessions.
Thank you and have a great day.
Thanks everyone for the kind words of support, congratulatory messages and for following every updates, thanks Jen as well as Mango for your countless cheers, it got us through. And of course to our wives who where there before the start, up until everyone finished, to make sure we get the best 'pictures' :) as well as shouting the loudest cheers.
Port Macquarie bike course is honest and tough, add the rain and it became a brutal course. There were a few crashes that I saw, and I too had a near slip as my rear wheel skidded going up Matthew Flinders drive. I managed to recover luckily. The run course was wet, some sections looked like a tough mudder race with all the mud you had to go through. On the swim, due to low tide, one section was too shallow that we had to walk, but overall it was good, especially the weir crossing.
Everyone finished safely, very painful legs for a few days but the finisher medal is well deserved as we worked hard for it today. - Rom Faro
FilOz Family and friends all gathered for the official launch party last month. We were joined by representatives from different entities such as Triathlon NSW, and media company Kalatas Media. Based on all the feedback, it was a resounding success, befitting the launch of the first and only Filipino Triathlon group who are officially incorporated, and affiliated with Triathlon Australia. Here is the link to the official photos of the night.
Triathlon NSW was obviously impressed by FilOz Triathlon Club as the group was featured in their July newsletter. Sarah Koen, Triathlon NSW Membership and Participation Manager, had a glowing report of the club thus far - she calls it "undeniable spirit of a community", but to us Filipinos, it's just plain old "Bayanihan" spirit. Read all about it here.
FilOz Triathlon Club was recently featured in the front page of the leading Filipino Australian publication, Ang Kalatas, in their monthly print, online, and eNewspaper editions. Millie Marcial-Phillips from Kalatas Media was present to celebrate the recently concluded and hugely successful launch party late last month. Please click on the link to read the article penned by our very own budding sportswriter Rommel Faro.
The club is now affiliated with Triathlon Australia so we’re here to celebrate. Hear about what’s happening with the club, our future direction, socialize with all our members, listen to their ‘war stories’, or even swap training notes while you’re at it. Please RSVP soon to reserve your spot to this momentous occasion.
Joey Guerrero, Manny Saguid, Jay Jueco, Ferdinand Boydon, Peter Loteria, and Delfin Posada travelled to the Philippines and raced the Regent 5i50 Olympic distance race in Subic. It was quite a challenge for the team due to the hot conditions in Manila but everyone got through and finished the race. Jay entered with Karen Romantico in mixed relay team, while Delfin did the run leg in his relay team. Well done to everyone.
Marlon Malinao and Rommel Faro became the first official FilOz members to tackle and finish the gruelling Melbourne Ironman. Debuting in 2012, IRONMAN Melbourne has since attracted the world's finest competitors. Athletes begin their day in the town of Frankston, south of Melbourne. The one-loop, 2.4-mile swim course leaves from the south side of the Frankston pier and heads north, before turning south to finish on the opposite side of the pier. The 112-mile, two-lap bike course incorporates the Eastlink Tollway, a world-class expressway closed exclusively for the use of competitors on race day. The iconic point-to-point run course also starts in Frankston, and concludes in St. Kilda, a funky beachside neighborhood with views of the Melbourne skyline.
